High Country Journey: GETTING SETTLED

HIGH COUNTRY JOURNEY:
GETTING SETTLED!

As I write a bit of verse for this part of our journey, we have been 'settled' now in our High Country home for 9 months.  Obviously I have not maintained my journaling prowess very well!  So again, this will be mostly captioned photo of our settling in progress!

NOVEMBER 2019....

Shortly after moving in, I am able to enjoy my early morning view from the coffee nook window.  Everything I had hoped for, although I have to keep a hat next to my chair because sometimes the sun shines right into my eyes!

Early November saw me begin the process of revamping and painting some of the old cupboard units and preparing them for my new "COLORFUL" studio work room.

Lots of drawers to paint and make beautiful -- these are part of the old dresser the boys had upstairs on Broadway Street.

My first job was to get rid of the tan and brown paint - I set up a tarp out in the dirt and went to work!

We repurposed the old entertainment center (previously located in the guest room) into a china closet of some sort.

Slowly my studio is taking shape!

We'll add a countertop later once we have everything in place!

Rick decides it is time to get a little artwork up on the walls!

We initiate the island countertop with an Italian Pasta party with MT Nesters.

Shelves for the studio and painting the two drawer nightstand for the guest room.

Hallelujah!  By Thanksgiving we have the garage cleared out enough to get BOTH rigs inside!

(And just in time for the first snow of the season!)

Jed is home for Thanksgiving and helps Rick install the upper cupboard unit above the sink.  This unit came from Bandon - the one Erik took down because he couldn't see the ocean from the stove!

Getting Jed off after Thanksgiving break - he found winter!
DECEMBER 2019....

i can't remember what Rick was working on, but it was a cold set up outside the Shop!

The Shop remains wrapped and the top half is done, but we still need to finish the bottom half!

A whole new ballgame to decorate for Christmas when you don't know where everything goes - it's all new!  But the piano remains a display area for multiple nativity scenes.  And I wired lights for every shelf.

The rose porcelin creche from Don and Pat is back on a mantle - just like Aunt LaV had it!

Trailer is safely tucked into its new winter home - inside the Shop.

Rick checks out his handiwork as we hang Christmas light and set up the outdoor creche on the porch.

And December sees the headboard finally added back to the master bed - all beautifully refinished and stained.

I think in my eagerness to take advantage of the high ceiling, we might have cut a tree too big for our shortbed truck!!

And we have to borrow the church's 8' ladder to decorate.  Thank goodness Luke was home early to help out!

A much 'skinnier' tree than in the past, but it nearly reached the ceiling!

"Daughter' Jess asked me to be her mom at a snowman paint party.  It was fun and....

.....my handiwork looked perfect over the sink in the kitchen - matching the snowman theme!

Just a reminder of the incredible view we have out our back windows!

These two snowpeople sat on the ledge above the door - with a snowy backdrop!

Work on the Shop siding starts right after Christmas!  Jed was a good help.

Our entry sign is decorated for the season!

On December 31 my new clock arrived for the studio.  So appropriate!

JANUARY 2020....

Siding on the Shop continues...one board at a time!

Slowly but surely!  Rick starts on the west wall - gotta make the side facing the neighbors look better first!

Thought the neat lanterns Bogarts gave us looked good up on the mantle after the Christmas decor came down.

Repurposing time!  The old breadbox is converted into a TP holder outhouse for the master bathroom.

New furniture begins to arrive!  We ordered the glider chair and ottoman online!

Kitchen a la January....

Guest bedroom is ready for visitors!

I made curtains from old PYG fabric to hide the tie dye supplies under the studio sink.

Spent a little time labeling everything in the studio...for MY sake since I couldn't find anything in its new locations!

Sunrise happens far to the south in the dead of winter, but the colors are still glorious!

New wall hanging made to match one from old house....

....old house bear fabric hanging.  I wrapped both fabrics around an accoustic sound board to help deaden the echo in the Great Room.

Finished wall hangings above the entry dividers.  They help fill a large blank wall.

February 2020...

A new quilted cloth for the coffee table is made from fabric scraps.

Another amazing sunrise!

Two matching fabric wall hangings made to go on east wall - mounted on accoustical board as well.

Primroses and planter brought by the Engstroms for our Open House in February.

Rick continues work on siding the Shop.

And finally....the last board is nailed in!

Bert (our robot vaccuum as named by Rick) was at first 'scared' of the bears on our new entry rugs.
We ordered a hallway rug for behind the couch.

New welcome sign painted for driveway entry - mostly to include the address numbers!
So....that's it.  We are settled!  We had an Open House for church friends, the neighborhood, school friends in mid-February.  The settling will continue, but in March we left for New Mexico and Arizona and a stint working for Chrpa.  When we return, it will be LANDSCAPING time!!
