New Year Snowshoe Bulger Flats Road

 snowshoeing bulger flats road

A PHOTO-JOURNAL

January 2, 2021

One last day out in the snow before Jed heads back to Salem.  Luke and Kady left yesterday for New Mexico, but got in a short snowshoe on Thursday before they left!

We had never been up the Bulger Flats Road out of Baker Valley before in the winter.  It was absolutely beautiful and we ran into just ONE person out cross-country skiing.  PERFECT!

We passed some beautiful ranch fences enroute to our parking spot.

My backseat position gave me a chance to capture a few!

One of the last 'ranch' houses before the end of the plowed road.

Had to get a shot of my new boots snowshoeing.  These were a
pair CAV friend Tom gave me that belonged to his wife who passed away last year.

This tree had so much snow blown on to the trunk it looked like a 'white fir'

All the snowladen branches were BEAUTIFUL!

Gotta stop for a group photo op!

We went through a couple meadow clearings with their wooley mullein spears.

Rick is checking out the edge of the bridge we are approaching over North Fork of Powder River.

There was at least 6-8 inches of ice under the snow on top of the creek.

Snow on dead ponderosa pine needles makes for great contrast!

So many beautiful TALL trees in this area.

Loved the heavy snow that still detailed the individual tree branchers.

I was amazed at the size of the 'snowball' on top of this slender little branch.

Rick took a few photos also...

And now....a couple of videos so you can walk with me, plus a 360 'look about'!
