DECEMBER Daily Divine 2022

                   december 2022

moments of the divine

God sneaks into our daily lives in the briefest of moments, interactions, conversations, or encounters.  Our mission is to notice, to stop and recognize, where and how God is at work in our lives.  I try to reflect each day on those beautiful times when I perhaps saw God at work, God's abundant blessings bestowed, or simply the beauty of God's incredible Creation.

CHRISTMAS 2022 GREETINGS

Nativity crafted from Habitat 'scraps' - Prisma photo
 HAPPY HOLIDAYS from

Baker City!

As this letter is being written, we have 15 mph winds blowing the 4" of snow we received two days ago all over the place! But the ski area is opening on the 3rd with a 40” base and more on the way. It’s Winter!

Jed at work prior to his grad classes

Jed was home for Thanksgiving. He has a new position at Willamette U niversity in Salem. They have opened a School of Digital Science with undergrad and grad degrees. Due to a lack of computer science profs, he added teaching the computer language Python to his schedule. They were impressed and asked him to join the faculty of the new school. He is no longer a visiting prof, and therefor e has job security and increased compensation! He teaches a weekly grad class one night in Portland and the balance on the Salem campus. Volleyball continues to be his outlet as he plays in two leagues.

Luke and Kady enjoy a little 'winter'
Luke and girlfriend Kady are still in Albuquerque, NM. Luke continues to run the Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program through the Presbyterian Church. There are many challenges, however, as it appears the church is withdrawing support. So there are many adjustments, meetings, and problem solving going on in his life! He continues to give tennis lessons
many mornings when the weather cooperates. Kady is still working on her teaching certification, but, with a teacher shortage, already has her own 3rd/4th grade class. She is a busy girl! They have a great cadre of friends that they enjoy. We look forward to their Christmas visit!

Introducing Spur
We have stayed busy with many projects around the homestead including an irrigation system, sheds, and firewood processing. Rick continues to head to the mountains for a weekly hike or snowshoe. He has added a buddy for these trips as we rescued a 5 year old border collie a few weeks ago. Spur’s training continues but we are enjoying him...and the additional exercise he encourages!

Ginger has been busy all year implementing a new music/broadcasting system at the church (no technical knowledge on my part, simply point person!) She still teaches a couple art classes a month at the local art center. And, if you need to find her during the summer, head for the garden! We have a full freezer and 160 pounds of pumpkins in the shop! Pumpkin bread anyone??

On the trail near Mount Rainier
In addition to two Habitat trips to Kalispell MT, we took the trailer to the north side of Mount Rainier for a week of hiking and exploring. We are hoping to do more traveling and ‘Habitating’ this coming year.

We continue to love being out of town on our five acres in awe of our mountain views, starry skies, and stellar sunrises/sunsetsplus a group of neighbors that can’t be beat! We have a guest room with a great view, RV water & electric hookups, and we welcome visitors young and old!

May we all reach out in this time of world turmoil to connect with the love for one another that came to us all with the birth of a tiny baby 2000+ years ago. God WITH us! God IN us! Merry Christmas!
